Faber - Day 1

The Forum for Active Built Environment Research (FABER) is an annual event held in Tirana, Albania. It is dedicated to promoting and disseminating knowledge and best practices concerning the sustainable development of urban areas. In 2022, this significant gathering unfolded in Tirana, aligning seamlessly with the local government’s strategic initiative to enhance the active mobility network. This initiative manifested through an ambitious program aimed at upgrading cycling and pedestrian infrastructure across the city. Building on the success of the previous year, FABER2023 took place again this year. The focal point of this edition revolved around Urban Planning in the Western Balkans. The overarching theme of FABER 2023 was explored through three distinct tracks: (1) Mobility and Urban Design, (2) Housing Systems, and (3) EU Policy Integration. Venues: Pyramid of Tirana and MAC Hotel Date & Time: 28-29 September, 9.00 – 3.00 pm

We were honoured to host two distinguished political figures who have played pivotal roles in shaping the urban landscape of Tirana. Mr. Erion Veliaj, the dynamic Mayor of Tirana, brought to the forefront his innovative approaches and visionary strategies for urban development. His leadership has been instrumental in navigating Tirana through a transformative journey. Additionally, the conference featured a keynote address by Mr. Arbjan Mazniku, the former Deputy Mayor of Tirana, whose wealth of experience and insights enriched our discussions. Together, these influential leaders provided invaluable perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with urban development, contributing significantly to the discourse at FABER2023.
